Ardbeg 1974 Provenance

The 1974 Provenance: one of the greatest drops it has ever been our pleasure to sample

Aged: 23 years

Colour: old gold

Strength: 55.6%

Price bracket: around £1,200

Best for: blowing your mind

Nose: peat and fresh sea air

Taste: toffee apples, rich fruit, smoke, peat, pepper, spice, it just keeps coming and the aftertaste is seemingly endless

Verdict: an incredible knockout dram that just keeps giving, morphing and shapeshifting as the myriad flavours packed inside it roll through your mouth in an ever-swelling crescendo of whisky wonder. Very expensive indeed and absolutely worth every penny
