A straight Islay classic, Ardbeg’s Ten
Aged: 10 years, funnily enough
Colour: light golden
Strength: 46%
Price bracket: around £35
Best for: big flavours
Nose: hints of sea salt, smoked fish and citrus with plenty of peat
Taste: full bodied, with smoky wet roads at the back, a hint of salt, deep rich coffee and a wonderful tingle at the end, not to mention a flourish of banana fruitiness in its midst. Finish is pleasingly long
Verdict: you just can’t mistake this for anything else. If you like a peat hit with bundles of flavour wrapped in there as well, this is a whisky to spend some time with. Rolls around the mouth deliciously.
