Black Bottle

There are whiskies from seven Islay distilleries in this bottle, but it calls Bunnahabhain home

Aged: no age statement, blended

Colour: clear honey

Strength: 40%

Price bracket: £15 – £20

Best for: rocking out by a massive bonfire on a Scottish beach, ideally in a howling gale

Nose: very sweet and fruity with a classic hit of peat behind it all

Taste: surprisingly smooth, sweet on the tongue and laced with Christmas cake and a splosh of good old smoky peat

Verdict: Islay peat meets better than average blend
