Aged: 17 years
Colour: pale yellowed gold
Strength: 46%
Price bracket: around £55
Best for: moments of madness as far as we can remember
Nose: not entirely sure on this
Taste: or this
For a fuller explanation, we can only refer you to our notes from the tasting where this whisky reared its head towards the end of a superbly lengthy session with Bruichladdich manager Mark Reynier in his office…
‘Nose? No idea. We are reeling, well I am anyway and Mark is holding us very willing captors. We have dinner with our hosts at another distillery in five minutes and I am hammered. Whisky is splashing all around us in a relentless barrage and we cannot stop smiling.
“As for taste, all I can latch onto through this grinning fug are that this rum cask stuff is decadent and laid back’.
Verdict: who knows, all we can remember is the rum cask journey’s well worth taking for adventurous souls in search of wild new pastures. Don’t blame us if it tastes like dishwater when sober though
