Glenlivet 12 year old

A big picture for a big whisky. This fights it out with Glenfiddich’s 12 for the honour of world’s best-selling single malt

Aged: 12 years

Colour: very light gold

Strength: 40%

Price: around £25

Best for: never going wrong

Nose: summer fruits, honey sweetness and melon, with fresh cherries

Taste: smooth and satisfying, slightly less fruit than the nose but this in no bad thing, and all wrapped up with a pleasing hint of spice in the finish

Verdict: eminently drinkable anytime
